The short version
Chat Preserver collects nothing. It runs entirely in your browser, saves your ChatGPT chat only to a folder you choose on your computer, and never sends anything to us or to anyone else.
- No account, no sign-up, no server of ours.
- No analytics, tracking, ads or cookies.
- Your chats and files never leave your computer, except for the requests your browser already makes to ChatGPT to load them.
What it accesses and why
Chat Preserver only touches the ChatGPT tab you have open, and only when you click its button.

It asks for no standing access to any website, and does nothing in the background.
While saving, it reads from ChatGPT, through your own signed-in session:
- the messages of the open conversation;
- the files in it: your uploads, images, and files ChatGPT created;
- your ChatGPT session details, used only in memory to make those requests. They are never written to disk or sent anywhere else.
Where your data goes
Everything Chat Preserver saves goes to one place: the folder you pick on your own computer.
- Saved files: the transcript, the reader page, every recovered file, and a run report listing what was saved and checked. Nothing else is kept.
- Network requests: the extension talks only to ChatGPT (chatgpt.com and the file links ChatGPT itself provides). It never contacts our servers or any third party.
- Offline reader: the reader page loads nothing from the internet. It works with the network switched off.
- Not saved: sign-in tokens, cookies and ChatGPT's temporary download links are used only while saving and are never written into your folder.
The saved folder is yours. We can't see it, change it, or recover it if it's lost. You can delete it at any time like any other folder.
What we never do
- Collect, store or see your conversations, files, name, email or ChatGPT account details.
- Use analytics, crash reporting, tracking pixels, advertising or cookies.
- Sell, rent, share or transfer any data, because we don't have any.
- Use your data to train AI models or for any purpose other than saving the chat you asked to save.
- Read other tabs, other websites, or your browsing history.
Payments, children, changes and contact
Launch list. If you email us to join the launch list, we keep your email address only to send you one launch email, then delete it. It is never shared or sold. This is separate from the extension, which still collects nothing.
Payments. Chat Preserver doesn't take payments today. If a paid version is added, payment will be handled by Lemon Squeezy, our reseller and merchant of record, which receives your payment details and email. We will receive only what we need to confirm your licence, never your card details, and this policy will be updated before that happens.
Children. Chat Preserver is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.
Changes. If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. A change that would collect any data will be announced in the extension's store listing first.
